1. Choice Novel Reading and Dialectical Journal Entries
Six entries are due EVERY OTHER Friday!! (Alternates with Teen Biz)
- It is expected that every student at MCMS read for 30 minutes every day during AC time in school as well as for 30 minutes at home each evening. I expect that you read for a minimum of 240 minutes per week. This is equivalent to well over 100 pages of a book per week! How you manage your reading time is up to you... as long as you accomplish your goal of reading for 240 minutes/100+ pages in your choice novel.
- Complete one Dialectical Journal entry on Monday, one entry on Tuesday and one entry on Wednesday. If you run into a problem, see me and you will have the next night (Thursday) to finish. There is absolutely no reason for Dialectical Journal entries to be late. They are expected to be finished by Wednesday... they are collected on Friday!

3. Article of the Week - AoW
Assigned Monday/Tuesday - Due Wednesday
- In this assignment, students read complex informational texts, annotate to clarify meaning, and responded to them in writing in order to improve background knowledge and to practice reading the types of informational texts that are commonly found in high school and college. Each week (generally on Monday or Tuesday), students will be given an article. They will have time in class to read and annotate the article. Most will be able to finish the response questions during class as well. Any part that is not finished in class will be due on Wednesday. Students who are absent on a AoW day must be sure to pick up the article as soon as they get back, or they can access the article from the Daily Assignments page or search the database below:
